Easy to Use

Remember when gauging your trailer's tongue weight was such a hassle? It often involved wrestling with bathroom scales, which were far from accurate, or making a trip to the weigh station, which took time and effort. Or you had to buy a separate scale. With a Weigh Safe Aero Hitch, it's super-simple. Just hook up your trailer to the ball mount like you would with any other hitch. The moment you connect, the weight of your trailer pushes down on the hitch ball automatically giving you a measurement on the easy-to-read gauge. It's quick, hassle-free, and takes the guesswork out of towing. Now you can focus on the road ahead instead of worrying about whether your load is balanced.

The Weigh Safe Aero Hitch can be used in either the drop or rise position to best suit your needs.

Video Transcript for Review of Weigh Safe Aero Hitch - WS77MR

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Weigh Safe Aero hitch for a 2 inch hitch. Has a 4 inch drop or a 5 inch rise and a 12,500 pound maximum gross towing weight capacity. Now, this ball mount with the included hitch ball will let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank portion right here is what'll slide into your 2 inch hitch receiver and the ball up front is what'll provide the connection point for your trailer coupler.

It is a stainless steel hitch ball. It is corrosion resistant. Now, this part will include everything shown here on the table. It includes the 2 inch shank right here. It includes the slider ball mount with a 2 inch fixed ball.

And on the side here, you can see the tongue weight's gauge. Does also come with the hitch pin and clip that'll be used to secure this into your hitch receiver. Comes with the slider lock with the two keys that'll go through here and lock your ball mount to the shank. And then it has this unique 2 5/16 inch size clamshell adapter. Now, this included clamshell adapter is designed to let you tow a trailer with a 2 5/16 inch size coupler without having to change out your ball mount.

Basically, just take this hinged clamshell adapter, put it over the 2 inch ball, and then it closes in place and gives you a 2 5/16 inch size ball. And then when you're done, if you wanna go back to the 2 inch, just remove the adapter and you're all ready to go. Now, we talk about tongue weight and why it's important. Well, tongue weight or pin load weight refers to the weight that the fully loaded trailer will exert downward on the back axle of your tow vehicle. Now, tongue weight is typically 10 to 15% and should not exceed 25% of your gross trailer weight.

So to give you an example, if you have a 10,000 pound trailer, you should have a tongue weight between 1,000 and 1,500 pounds. And you can adjust that tongue weight of the trailer by either removing or adding cargo or just redistributing it on the load on the trailer. The tongue weight should not exceed the capacity of your tow vehicle, your hitch, or any of your towing components. This Aero hitch is a nice smooth modern design. Has the built-in tongue weight gauge here to measure the tongue weight to help you balance out that trailer. So it's a quick way to check if your load needs any adjustments before you hit the road. It's a super simple to use. You just couple the trailer up and it'll automatically give you a measurement every time so there's no more messing around with separate scales. Makes everything so much easier. Now, the adjustable height on this, this will let you tow trailers of different heights with the same vehicle. Basically the slider ball mount, you can see, it'll slide up or down. Line the holes up to what height you need and then secure it in place with the locking pin. The holes are 1 inch separate, center to center, so it gives you an incremental height adjustment of one inch. Now, the maximum drop it's gonna give you, which is this position, is gonna be 4 inches. And that's measured from the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform. If you flip this over in your receiver, put this at the very highest point, it'll get you a maximum rise of 5 inches. Now, we talked about the lock to secure this. Comes with the two keys. It's pretty simple. We just pop open the rubber cap there, put your key in, line it up, and then just turn it a quarter of a turn and it'll remove the lock. And then all you have to do is put this through the. all the way through, and then take your lock. Go ahead and put it on there. Turn it back and you can see now it's locked in position. Put your rubber cover back on and now there's nobody trying to take this or they can move it. And then when you're done, you can just unlock it and then move it wherever you need to. Now, the gross towing weight capacity will be 12,500 pounds, tongue weight of 1,500 pounds. And again, it doesn't matter which ball size you use. It'll be the same. The last thing, I wanna give you some measurements and we're gonna measure from these hitch pin holes. You can see there's two of them. And we're gonna measure from the closest one to the center of the ball and then the farthest one away. So if we take our ruler and if we go closest center to center of the ball mount is 8 inches. If we go back to the furthest hole to the center of ball mount, 9 1/4 inches. But that should do it for a look at the Weigh Safe Aero hitch for a 2 inch hitch with a 4 inch drop, 5 inch rise, and a 12,500 pound gross towing weight capacity.

Customer service was excellent. Hitch is overkill for my current truck but looking toward the future with this purchase. Great company to do business with.

The Weigh Safe adjustable ball mount have a lot of pros to it. One of the main things that stood out for me was how the lock works. If you are putting on the lock cylinder on you don't have to use the key to lock it, it clicks in and locks into place. The Aero is a good option for someone who wants something that is lighter in weight than most adjustable ball mounts. It will also give you slightly better clearance since the two balls are not connected as one and you would get a clam shell adapter to adapt to the 2-5/16th ball size. The scale is a major plus when your loads are not always the same, you always know your Weigh is Safe to go!

Listing indicated in came with two balls, in fact it comes with one ball and a clam shell for second ball. Clam shells are not safe. I returned the item.

by:

Was unaware that the 2 5/16 ball is just a clamshell that goes over the 2” ball . Used it once hoping for the best and it got so wedged in the trailer that we had to pry it out with a bar. Absolute garbage and needs to be more clearly stated that there is a clamshell as your second ball. Called to try and get it returned and/or exchanged for one without a clamshell and was denied . Absolute trash and do not buy it if you’re going to tow anything other than a 2” ball.

I love this Hitch! This helps me better properly distribute my front to rear trailer weight. I do have one issue but it's due to my vehicle, but not currently affecting my ability to tow my current trailers. I can't do a rise due to my bumper facing being about a 1/2 inch too long/deep. Cybertruck.
